Calgary Psychologist Helping You Rise Above Life's Challenges

Welcome to Elevate Psychology

As a registered psychologist in Calgary,
I look forward to helping you on your way

My name’s Labiba, and I am glad you’re here.

Starting therapy and finding the right therapist can be an intimidating and exhausting process (I know from personal experience), so I decided to create a space that is welcoming and comforting.

If you’ve made it this far in life, chances are you’ve faced your share of pain, sadness, trauma, worry and heartbreak. While some of these are expected as responses to life events, you shouldn’t have to suffer through more bad days than good. Therapy has the ability to empower us, educate us and help us rise after adversity, all while honouring our unique personalities.

As a certified and registered Calgary psychologist, my goal is to give you the skills you need so you can make the changes you want in your life and improve your mood, relationships, career and personal goals.

Let me help you get there.

Let’s Talk.

Who We Work With

Adults

Life can derail you when you least expect it. Be it a traumatic life-or-death event, the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or abuse, these moments and situations can send your life into a tailspin. You might feel anxious, depressed, stressed, suffer mentally or develop addictions or disorders. I offer support with individual counselling that helps you find solace and the origins of your pain to help you process your emotions and develop positive responses. I work with all adults from different cultures, beliefs and upbringings.

Teens

It’s extremely difficult to grow up in today’s age of excess and technology. Teenagers are exposed to so several challenges all at once: societal (local and global events), ideological (sexual, racism), and personal (peer pressure, traumatic experiences). This can lead to depression, anxiety and negative behavioural changes. Having a safe space to talk is crucial for them to learn how to manage and cope with their feelings. As a certified teen psychologist, I’ll support your teenager through these transformative years so they can move forward confidently and positively in life.

My Therapeutic Methodology

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

The most common type of psychological therapy. CBT involves helping you become aware of inaccurate, harmful or negative thinking, so you can challenge them with alternative views and change your response to them.

Solution-Focused Therapy

SFT involves you discussing your solutions and future hopes rather than a deep dive into your problems. The idea is to help you develop the skills to address problems rather than dwelling on them.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

This therapy works effectively for those who have PTSD. It is designed to repeatedly expose you to traumatic memories and situations, helping you overcome your fears. There are two types: imaginal and in vivo.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

DBT can provide clarity on your thoughts and feelings by “living in the moment” while developing healthy ways to cope with stress, emotional regulation or self-destructive behaviours. It can also improve relationships with family and friends.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

MBCT is a combination of cognitive therapy and mindfulness, helping you recognize negative thoughts and feelings without acting on them or placing any judgment. Techniques can include meditation, body scan exercises and mindfulness practices.

Gottman-Based Marriage Therapy

Developed by Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman, this marriage therapy includes assessing your relationship before implementing ‘interventions’ that help disarm hostilities and replace negative conflicts with positive interactions.

Mindfulness & Meditation

Learning calm and focused mindfulness and meditation techniques can help you clear your mind and control feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. I can teach you the essentials during our sessions.

Client-Centered Approach

This therapy involves you becoming the dominant or equal partner in the sessions while I guide you without passing judgments. This allows you to become more self-aware of your actions, helping you change your behaviour.

Narrative Therapy

Non-pathologizing and non-blaming, narrative therapy helps you find and give meaning to the stories of your life. This, in turn, helps influence how you see yourself and can lead to positive change.

What to Expect From
Calgary Psychology

I get it; you might feel a little overwhelmed, nervous and lost about what to expect from your first Calgary psychology session. That’s absolutely okay; I’m here to make it easy and, most importantly, comfortable.

The first session is a simple “get to know you.” I’ll review the consent and intake forms while we discuss your concerns and goals for therapy. At the end of the first or second session, I’ll form a brief treatment plan consisting of a combination of interventions.

The sessions are warm, down-to-earth and professional. I like to keep things light and simple, creating a space where you can be yourself and work towards becoming the best version of you

I understand that preparing for your first session can be difficult, so I’m here to make it easy for you. I’ll provide you with some online consent and intake forms while suggesting that you write down the reasons you’re coming to therapy and your goals or concerns.

I require an Emergency Contact for any situations that may arise during or after a session that constitutes an emergency, such as a medical emergency, a missing person, or risk of imminent danger to the client or from the client. As a certified psychologist, therapeutic details are never disclosed to any third party unless the client specifically signs a request to do so.

Nope! It all depends on what makes you comfortable. Some people prefer discussing their concerns face-to-face while others enjoy the comfort of their own homes. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions, so everyone can get the counselling they need.
