Individual counselling and signs of depression
Depression is a mood condition that causes an individual to feel sad and hopeless while lacking motivation and interest in activities they usually enjoy. Some may perceive depression as simply being unhappy, but it can be much more intense than that as it completely reshapes the way you think, emotes, and react to certain situations, and this mood disorder can eventually manifest into physical ailments. More so, depression is much more than just a brief period of the “blues,” as it will impact how you function and keep you from doing activities like school work, going to your job, and basic hygiene. There is no way to remedy this mood condition on your own, and when left untreated, depression can decay into a severe health condition. To get treatment, receive help through the form of individual counselling.
Find out the common signs of depression that you should be watchful of that will help you determine if you need to seek help from an individual counsellor to combat the mood disorder.
While anxiety is another mood disorder and different than depression, both disorders often emerge together. Anxiety will feel like constant dread and restlessness, trembling and muscle twitching, rapid breathing and heartbeat, and a challenge to focus on anything but what you’re worried about.
When you suffer from depression, your entire outlook on life will shift. While you may have once felt motivated to socialize, do school work, and go to your job, you may begin to ask yourself what the point of all of that is and feel generally hopeless. Feelings of hopelessness can also manifest in self-hatred, and immense guilt, where you might think nothing in your life will improve.
Feeling depressed is often associated with a change in sleeping habits, whether that means constantly feeling fatigued and having a general lack of energy or you’re unable to sleep at night as you have incessant insomnia. This change in sleep can ultimately exacerbate other symptoms and increase your anxiety, all of which can be extremely deliberating to undertake daily.
Changes in appetite
Much changes in your sleep habits; when you suffer from a mood disorder like depression, you’ll also undergo changes in your appetite. Unintentional dietary changes often happen when you are tackling depressive episodes, and your appetite will often fluctuate. Some may overeat, while others will not feel hungry; it all depends on the individual.
Loss of interest
A common sign of depression is waning interest in activities that you’ve previously enjoyed and motivated you. Some of this loss of interest is an exact result in feeling fatigued and having minimal energy to pursue activities you once found joy in, and instead, you become withdrawn. Activities like sports, socializing, and sex is direct results of longstanding depression.
A different outlook on death
When you leave a depression disorder untreated for a lengthy period, it will eventually shift your outlook on death. That is a concept you do not fear and contemplate as you view it as a relief or a solution. Of course, when suicidal ideation begins to emerge as a mindset, you should seek help immediately from emergency services whilst staying with a loved one until help arrives.
Suicidal thoughts are a direct link to depression and can prompt any individual to seek help from an individual counsellor so they can feel like themselves once more.
